Pickles burrows into the couch

One of my photographs is going viral over on buzzfeed, used in an article called “28 Dogs That Know Exactly How You Feel This Morning.” My photo is #5.

I took a shot of Pickles while working in a flame suite at Peepshow Post last year, I popped it onto reddit and from there it’s been reposted many times.

**update 9pm – Huffington Post has now joined in the fray. **

VisualNoiz supports Eric Rosner kickstarter project “Gilded Age of Manhattan art. 1880-1910”

I have been a big fan of Eric Rosner since I first came across him a couple of years ago.

He has a kickstarter going on, check him out.

Gilded Age of Manhattan art. 1880-1910
Eric writes;

“During the period of 1880-1910 known as the Gilded Age, New York City had become the city of the future. Industry, commerce, architecture and entertainment were just a few of the strongholds that Manhattan could boast about. There had never been a city like New York. Dreams were born and created here and anything was possible.

My main focus is on a small stretch of streets between 34th and 23rd, South of Broadway. It’s an epic location. Vaudeville, Edison, Tesla, Mark Twain, Oscar Wilde, Houdini, Tin Pan Alley, the birth of film and Madison Square Garden is just a brief list of the significance of the area. I’m really drawn to the history of New York City, I find NYC such a unique location and the cross over city towards the modern world.”

MP3 Download – The Barr Brothers at Rockwood Music Hall, Lower East Side Manhattan NYC

The Barr Brothers final show of the summer before the debut label release this fall.

The intimate Rockwood provides Brad a wonderful birthday venue. He literally roped in the audience to participate, showing off his tricks and letting the room experience involvement in the performance. He sent thread out into the crowd, attached to his guitar. As the audience changed the tension, the noise would come through his guitar pickup. Very fun trick! I’ve seen him do it before but this time he actually explained it a bit.

Two new songs, still untitled, will be forthcoming after the album drops, per Andrew’s request, he’d prefer if the new tracks are first heard via the studio release. Check back in the fall to download those tracks here.

Zander Bleck – Mercury Lounge Free MP3 Download

Zander Bleck leads a charmed “sexy life.” His rock n roll is in your face, perhaps even trying to get in your pants. With tracks like “Take It Away” and “Find You Again” it’s clear that Zander has got something the music scene hasn’t experienced yet.

Joined by guitar god Mark Williams, The Pocono Prodigy; here they are at the Mercury Lounge in Manhattan.

The addition of Mark adds his distinctive flavor of soul which accentuates Zander’s energy in a genre defying effort with an LP release pending soon, this will be something to take New York by storm . I can’t wait to see where they take us next.

Check out the news about the upcoming album at ZanderBleck.com

Zander pays homage to Led Zeppelin with Good Times, Bad Times [4.5MB] live at the Mercury Lounge in Lower Manhattan.

Joe Pug and the Hundred Mile Band with Strand of Oaks at Mercury Lounge, Manhattan

The hauntingly beautiful music filled the room as Strand of Oaks took the stage at Mercury Lounge before Joe Pug last night. Not what I expected from a guy that “looks like a cross between The Lion from the Wizard of Oz and The Dude.’ His name is Tim Showalter and his voice will cut through you and show you something you were missing out on before.

Here’s Strand of Oaks doing Daniel’s Blues [4.4] written from Dan Ackroyd’s perspective on the loss of John Belushi and what will become of the Ghostbusters. With lines like “who will I call / Chevy’s an ass and Gilda’s got a cold.” Even Eddie Murphy gets a shout out in this one, a very interesting piece.

Another great track, Sterling [4.6MB]

With a heartwarming voice that gets you every time, up next was the Joe Pug set. I love checking out Joe every chance I get. Thanks to The Low Anthem for the introduction. Here is I Do My Father’s Drugs [4.8MB] Afterwards he jokes around telling the crowd they came out on a Saturday night in Manhattan for ‘brooding introspective folk ballads’ which he will providing. Joe is always a good time.

I’ll put the rest of the MP3s online when Joe finishes his current tour this summer, so check back here next month.

MP3 Download – Sebadoh – Bowery Ballroom, Manhattan

Second night in New York City brings the end of East Coast 2011 Tour for Sebadoh. I took my new TASCAM DR-100 and here are some of the MP3 downloads from it. Third show captured with this digital recorder, the first being Sebadoh at Johnny Brenda’s and the second was Dead Milkmen at Warsaw Brooklyn.

Jason will be putting up more 2011 Sebadoh Tour MP3s at Sebadoh.com in the MP3 section. Here, a few favorites of mine follow:

Opening act cult hero Richard Buckner takes us somewhere wonderful backed up by Anders Parker on drums and vocals.
. [8 MB]
New York gets a version of The Freed Pig, [4MB] only played once all tour this year.

Lots of amazing moments with Lou, Jason and Bob interacting with the crowd. At one point, Lou asks for Liquid Applause (J├Ągermeister)

So much fun to be had listening to Lou taking stabs at Manhattan in response to the crowd booing him just before
Give Up [6.5MB] when talking about his home in LA. I will call it the It’s All Good/Fuck Off Jam > New Worship [5.9 MB]

Together or Alone leads into Not a Friend [8.8 MB] which I thought was beautiful.
After Not Too Amused, [8.3 MB] Lou reminisces the early days of touring, driving down the FDR in NYC to the Lower East Side from Massachusetts.

Kojo Modibo Sun @ The HSA Theater Harlem School of the Arts

Kojo Modibo Sun has given us a new outlook, a new musical being. Call it a genre, if you will, they call it Harlem Rock. Remember what Harlem did for Jazz? Kojo Modibo Sun is taking Rock into the stratosphere on this one.. fusing rock with jazz, gospel and soul, this is what the next generation of musicians will be influenced by.

I recorded this for an upcoming documentary we are making about Harlem Rock.
